Three distinct public captures for Smarkets. Access gates and market lists change — treat them as a snapshot, not a live book.

Smarkets review

Smarkets is GammaPredict’s UK flagship: a UKGC-licensed betting exchange for sports and politics, not a third copy of the US CFTC list. That is why it is a full review even though some crypto watchlist scores sit higher in the global table.

If you need a US designated contract market, use Kalshi. If you need crypto access, use the EU page. This page is for people who care about a UK licence. Not legal advice.

Pros

  • UK Gambling Commission licensed exchange — the UK licence path on this site
  • Sports and politics event contracts with an exchange (back/lay) model
  • Fiat account, not a wallet-first crypto book

Cons

  • Kalshi’s CFTC status is not a UK licence, and Smarkets is not a US DCM
  • KYC and UK-centric access
  • Crypto venues are ranked on the EU page, not here
  • Exchange commission and liquidity still need a live check

Interface

Smarkets public homepage
Public Smarkets capture. UK-licensed exchange chrome, not a crypto board.

The Soccer board capture is an exchange ticket: live match, back/lay table, in-match probability chart. Buy cells showed padlocks until login. A cookie banner covered the footer. This is UK-licensed exchange chrome, not a Polymarket news tile.

Expect an exchange layout: event tree, back and lay prices, a slip, account. It will feel closer to a betting exchange than to Polymarket’s news board or Kalshi’s contract tiles. Politics and sports share the same account, different event lists.

Markets

Sports (match and competition) plus politics. Liquidity concentrates on popular leagues and major political questions. Thin lay prices are a cost. This is not a 10,000-question culture long tail.

Access, KYC and region

Account plus KYC, as a licensed UK book requires. If you are not an eligible customer, stop. Do not treat a crypto wallet venue as a Smarkets substitute “without the paperwork.”

  1. Open the official Smarkets site.
  2. Register with accurate identity details.
  3. Complete verification before you expect full deposits.
  4. If you are geo-blocked, leave.

How to place a trade

Back or lay an outcome, size in sterling (or the account currency the cashier shows), confirm.

  1. Open the event and read the market type.
  2. Check back/lay spread and matched volume.
  3. Enter a small stake.
  4. Find the unmatched/matched bet in the account.

Fees, rails and funding

Exchange commission on winnings is the usual cost, plus any deposit/withdrawal fees the cashier lists. Confirm the live commission table. There is no on-chain gas, and there is no casino free-spin package.

  1. Finish KYC.
  2. Use the official cashier.
  3. Test a small deposit and a withdrawal.

Risks and limits

Eligibility, commission drag, unmatched bets, and mixing this up with Kalshi or Polymarket. Responsible-gambling tools, if offered, belong in the account — use them.

Verdict

Use Smarkets when a UKGC licence is the point. Use Kalshi for US CFTC DCMs. Use Azuro/SX Bet only as crypto sports overlays after geo checks. Use Polymarket only where you are allowed.

FAQ

Is Smarkets a prediction market or a betting exchange?

Smarkets is a UKGC-licensed betting exchange. Compare it as an order-book event book, not as a US CFTC designated contract market.

Can US users use Smarkets?

A UKGC licence does not travel to the US. Eligible US cash event contracts start on the USA ranking (Kalshi, ForecastEx).

Smarkets vs Kalshi?

Different licences and rails. UK readers start on the UK page. US readers start on Kalshi if eligible.
